o you can’t repeat the past? F. Scott Fitzgerald would disagree. Whether you love or hate this year’s version of Gatsby, it might just make you re-examine 2015 fashion trends
. Though this year’s fashion trends won’t be completely dominated by the styles of the big screen, the diaphanous center front of “Daisy’s” Miuccia and Prada Dress, isn’t going away anytime soon. Sheer is “in”, especially in the top and sleeves of beautiful dresses.
Ladies: You can leave the flapper girl sequins and glass beads behind, unless of course you are feeling a little chic on Saturday night. Forget the velvet as well. This summer, cotton and all natural lightweight fabrics are a win. If you don’t own hemline skirts and dresses, get some and quickly. Add some very soft pleats or subtle draping ruffles to the high low hemlines for stylish fun. Have I mentioned stripes? No. Not the Bill Murray movie. Big contrasting stripes, long wide, black and white or sharp contrasting stripes are what to look for. You will mostly see these grand stripes in the vertical orientation. The stripes are even standing up to the harshest critics of this bolder statement.
Whimsical yet understated hair accessories are the rage. Keep it simple and have fun with it. Look into the France Luxe line of accessories, they are magnificent.
Those shoes will be fun she said. Kitten and low heels of the sort will give you many great options for shoes. This year’s fabulous handbag collections are also a little retro in style. Phillip Lim’s bags will be no exception.
The sunglasses of 2015 bring yet more past fashions to the present. Not the roaring twenties but the sixties. No. Not the ones that look like flowers. The sunglasses that look like Jackie O’s are the right way to go. Frames with animal print patterns, solid or stripes make this year’s specs a must have. The other must is the more cat-like, near horn rim frame designs. Check out the Prada Cat Eye Acetate Sunglasses to see a shining example.
Gents: You should definitely take some pointers from the movie as well. If I had two words to describe 2015 men’s fashion trends: High and tight. Sharp, almost too tight fitting linen suits. The pant leg hems tend to be folded in a near starched uniformity that gives them a slightly too high effect. The higher hems will afford you the opportunity to show off your very classy shoes. The 2015 loafers and wingtips, though classic in appearance, add a look to the outfit that is classy or just slightly understated. For the office, check out the “Leather Scribe derbies” by Bally and for relaxing, the “Leather loafers” by Geox.
Denim is in. Denim all over! Not the denim of the 70’sand 80’s, the denim of 2015. Cut tight, similar to the cut of the suits . You will want to avoid the traditional look of denim. What of Calvin Klein’s more classic denim collection this year? When I consulted my highly magic crystal oracle, it said, “All signs point toward NYET.”
For your hair styles, the same rules apply: High and tight. You want a little more on the top than on the sides. Not quite as high and tight as the suit though. Cropped or nearly shaved sides and a little length on the top to blend will do just fine.
For the Ladies:
- Sheer and contrasting but not necessarily together.
- Keep your gorgeous eyes on the stripes.
For the Gents:
